What is Supported Living?

Supported living is person-centred support that helps you run your own life and your own home, rather than having things done for you. It can cover routines, cooking, budgeting, appointments, social life and anything else that independence involves.

The aim is always the same: the right level of support without unnecessarily limiting independence. Our support workers do not simply take over tasks when you can safely be supported to do them yourself.

Support is flexible. It can be a few hours a week to keep things on track, or regular daily visits while you build confidence and skills.

Common Questions About Supported Living

How is supported living different from home care?

Home care focuses on doing tasks for you. Supported living focuses on building your skills and confidence so you can do more for yourself, with support shaped around your goals.

How much support will I get?

Support is always proportionate to your needs, abilities and goals, and is agreed with you in your support plan. It is reviewed regularly and can step back as your confidence grows.

Can I choose what I am supported with?

Yes. Your support plan is built with you, around the areas of life where you want help, and nothing is decided without your agreement.

Do you support young people as well as adults?

Yes. We support young people preparing for adult life as well as adults of all ages, with support matched to each person's stage of life.

Can my family be involved?

Yes, as much or as little as you would like. Many people find it helpful to involve family in planning and reviews.

What if my needs change?

Your plan is reviewed regularly and support can be increased, reduced or changed as your circumstances and goals change.
