What is Personal Care?

Personal care is hands on support with the private, everyday tasks that become harder over time. Washing, bathing, dressing, using the toilet, moving safely around the home.

For many families it is the hardest kind of help to ask for, and often the most needed. Our care assistants are trained to provide it in a way that protects privacy and dignity at every step. We work at your pace and never rush you.

It can be a short morning call to help you start the day, an evening visit to settle you comfortably, or several visits across the day. It is built entirely around your routine.

Dignity in Every Detail

  1. We ask before we act

Nothing happens without your agreement. You decide how much support you want and how it is given.

  2. We protect your privacy

Doors closed, curtains drawn, only what is necessary uncovered. Small things that matter enormously.

  3. We encourage independence

If you can do part of a task yourself, we support rather than take over. Doing things for yourself keeps you stronger for longer.

  4. We stay consistent

Wherever possible you will see the same familiar carers, so you never have to explain your preferences twice.

  5. We record and review

Every visit is recorded and your plan reviewed regularly with you and your family.

Common Questions About Personal Care

Will I have the same carer for personal care visits?

Wherever possible we arrange for the same familiar carers to visit, so a trusting relationship can build. If your regular carer is unavailable, we will try to send someone who already knows your care plan.

Can I request a male or female carer?

Yes. Please tell us your preference and we will do our best to match it. Many people feel more comfortable with a carer of a particular gender for personal care, and that is completely understood.

How long does a personal care visit last?

Visit lengths are agreed around the support needed and set out clearly in your care plan.

Can personal care be combined with home help or companionship?

Yes. Many people combine personal care with meal preparation, light housekeeping or companionship.

What if my needs change over time?

Care plans are reviewed regularly and can be increased, reduced or paused as needs change.

Do carers help with medication?

Where it forms part of an agreed care plan, our carers can prompt and support you to take medication as prescribed. We will confirm exactly what is appropriate during your assessment.
