Respite Care in Doncaster

Looking after someone you love is rewarding, and it is also exhausting. Respite care gives you a proper break while your loved one is cared for at home by someone you can trust.

What is Respite Care?

Respite care is short term support that takes over from a family carer for a while. Our carer steps in at home, follows the routine already in place and keeps everything running as normal.

It might be a few hours a week so you can shop, rest or see friends. It might be a fortnight so you can take a holiday. It might be cover if you are unwell yourself. However long you need, the care continues without disruption.

When Respite Care Helps

A holiday

Take a proper break knowing care continues at home.

A few hours weekly

Regular time for yourself, every week.

Illness or hospital

Cover when the family carer is unwell or admitted.

Work commitments

Support during working hours or a busy period.

A family event

A wedding, a christening, time with other relatives.

After a hospital discharge

Extra help while someone regains strength.

Trying home care

A gentle first step before committing to regular care.

Planning around change

Short notice support when plans change. Please call to discuss what we can offer.

Rest is Part of Caring Well

Family carers often carry on far past the point of exhaustion because asking for help feels like giving up. It is not. Tiredness affects patience, health and judgement, and the person you care for feels that too.

Taking a break is what allows you to keep caring for the long term. There is no shame in needing one, and no minimum level of need before you are entitled to ask.

Care That Follows Your Routine

We do not arrive and change everything. Before respite begins we learn how things are already done, from the order of the morning routine to how the tea is made.

Our carers can support with personal care, meals, medication prompting, mobility, housekeeping, companionship and getting out and about. Overnight and live-in respite are available where longer cover is needed.

You will receive a clear record of each visit, so when you return you know exactly how things have been.

Common Questions About Respite Care

What is the shortest respite booking you offer?

Respite is flexible and arranged around what you need. Please call us with the dates you have in mind and we will explain the options available.

How far in advance should I book?

Planning ahead makes it easier to arrange the right carer, particularly for holidays. If your need is sooner, please still call us and we will let you know what we can offer.

Can you cover overnight or live-in respite?

Yes. Where longer cover is needed we can arrange overnight or live-in respite so support is in place around the clock.

Will the same carer cover the whole period?

We aim for consistency wherever possible so your loved one sees familiar faces throughout. For longer periods we will explain the arrangements in advance.

How will I know how things are going while I am away?

Every visit is recorded and we will keep you updated, so you can genuinely relax and know exactly how things have been when you return.

Can respite care become regular care later?

Yes. Many families start with respite and move to regular visiting or live-in care. There is no obligation either way.
